Seth Godin Quits Writing Books - Will We Miss Him?

During our vacation on the Cape this summer, my wife recieved an exciting call on her cell phone from a leading nationwide bookstore asking if she would do a book signing for the children's book she wrote earlier this year. The book is a story of a little girl, "Sela" who had to leave her friends behind when her family moved into a new town. The book took my wife almost three years to write and illustrate. Needless to say, we were very excited that her children's book could get into the hands of kids who, like Sela may be experiencing the challenge of having to make friends in a new town.

This morning, I saw that after writing 12 books, marketing guru and author Seth Godin, has decided to stop writing books and go 100% digital. There are so many channels form which to gain insights such as blogs, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and other digital media. Godin feels that books are not as effective for sharing ideas, “I like the people, but I can’t abide the long wait, the filters, the big push at launch, the nudging to get people to go to a store they don’t usually visit to buy something they don’t usually buy, to get them to pay for an idea in a form that’s hard to spread, says Godin.”

Is he correct? Are books obsolete? Do children still read books? Do you?
