Today's Marketing Cookie - Tell A Story

Today's Marketing Cookie - A movie would be a great way to relax this weekend.

"A movie would be a great way to relax this weekend."

Today's Marketing Cookie is one of my most favorite things to do. I love relaxing. I love movies... especially the good ones.  I also love weekends... even the rainy ones.  How about you?

I still remember my first movie experience in 1979. I had a buddy John in the 3rd grade who invited me to go with him to the drive-in movies in Mendon, MA.  His father took us in his lime green Ford Pinto. His father had loaded the back of the car with every kind of junk food you could imagine. He found a good spot to park, attached the speaker to the window and we watched a double feature of Disney's, "Lady and the Tramp", followed by "The Unidentified Flying Oddball".

I was mesmerized.

You see, I grew up in a very conservative household and we didn't have a TV in our house. As you can imagine, going to see my first movie on a one-hundred-foot screen was larger than life and an experience l've never forgotten. I fell in love with movies in that moment! I love a good movie, and I especially love a good story.  How about you?

As marketers, we have many opportunities to tell a good story. We can explain how we've solved problems for our customers, or tell a story of differentiation to help prospects understand how your company is better or different. You can use the art of story telling to make your products and services more relevant and compelling. The truth is that people love a story... especially a good one.

Yes! Tell the story in as few words and as powerfully as possible. If your marketing doesn't tell a compelling story you should step back and reevaluate. My first movie was also a drive in, double feature: The Sword in the Stone and "Gus" - the donkey that played football. Gotta love Disney, the MASTER marketer/storyteller!
