Today's Marketing Cookie - Act On It

Today's Marketing Cookie - Your best idea will come to you in the shower...

"Your best idea will come to you in the shower this week. Act on it."

Today's fortune came from Malik Calimbas of New York, NY. Malik is an art director for Major League Baseball. Before coming to the Big Apple to join the MLB, he worked for Beckett Media in Los Angles - one of the world's largest sports publishing companies. Beyond lending his creative talents to the sports industry for the past decade, Malik is also a mind-blowingly talented illustrator and musician. A sample of his work can be seen here.

Today's Marketing Cookie is about converting ideas into action.

The prerequisite for today's fortune, if it were to come true for you, is that you will have to take a shower - at least once this week. In case you were thinking that no one will notice if you skip taking a shower for a few days, please allow me to be so bold as to say, we always notice. The good news is that if you take two showers this week, you will statistically double your chances of getting your next best idea!

The truth about great ideas is that they sometimes come when you least expect them. Just like lightning, you never know where you may be when great ideas may strike. They hit us when we're driving on the highway, in the middle of the night when we're supposed to be sleeping and yes, they even come to us in the shower.

Unlike lightning however, ideas will strike in the same place twice. So, if your "idea place" is the shower, then as the fortune says, you should be expecting your best idea to arrive sometime this week. The fact that ideas can strike the same place more than once, is very good news for a guy like me who is in the "ideas business" and needs a steady stream of marketing ideas on a daily basis to delight our clients.

Getting good ideas are, believe it or not, the easy part of today's fortune.

The second part of the fortune for today is to, "Act on it." This is the hard part! I am guilty of being an "idea hoarder". I get these grandiose movie script ideas, plot lines for a comic book, concepts for marketing books I want to write, incredible plans for additions to the tree house I am building with my son, yet many of them never become a reality and lay dried out and abandoned in the rusty, dusty "idea bone yard".

So, I encourage you to take heed of the best idea that comes to you in the shower this week, and make the time you'll need to act on it. Who knows, your best idea could change your life or it could change the world. Your best idea may be good enough to make you rich and famous, or even better - it will give you a new level of satisfaction, a feeling of pride and a sense accomplishment. Now that's a great idea!

I had a great idea come to me today while I was eating a falafel sandwich. I would really like it if my great ideas came while I was running. Maybe I'd weigh 10 lbs less :) Anyway, I always try to be ready no matter what! :) Thanks for the great post.

Thank you for the food for thought. LOL! Perhaps you are a "happy thinker" and your best ideas come when you're doing something you enjoy much more than exercising.

Great post. I, too, am too often guilty of letting my great ideas wither in the "idea bone yard." In fact, that has been my focus this week--resurrection of that bone yard. Thanks for spurring me on a little more. And, yes, I have taken multiple showers this week. :-)

I'm glad you are in the muti-shower-per-week club... as are your friends, neighbors and colleagues. LOL! I'm glad to hear that I played some part in reactivating some of those old ideas. The way I look at it, I want to get them rolling long before they end up on my "bucket list", which is of course their last chance.

I love it. I was actually in the shower the other morning when an awesome headline came to me. Needless to say, I hopped out of the shower soaking wet just to grab something to write it down. Now, have I acted on it yet? Not quite, but getting on it!

Congratulations Angela! You have already accomplished the best way to act on your great idea... you wrote it down. By writing it down you allow it to exist. The next step is to select a date by when you plan take action. It could be today, next week, or even next month - it doesn't matter - as long as it fits into your life. When that date arrives, you be well on your way to achieving success!

So true. I have a million ideas. Acting on them can be a little easier said than done, but I think you have to put some rational thought into before action is taken. Sometimes we can be too quick to act on ideas and they may not go as planned.
